摘要

Mg alloys have great potential in application in the medical field where Mg alloys may be used as a biodegradable implant material. The biocompatibility of Mg was first known in the early twentieth century. However, the intrinsic rapid corrosion and hydrogen evolution phenomena associated with Mg forced researchers to give up the first clinical trials. Recently, a great understanding of corrosion mechanisms and development of innovative corrosion protection techniques are reviving the research interest in biodegradable Mg alloys. The factors influencing Mg corrosion in vitro are reviewed: (i) inorganic ions and their concentrations, (ii) organic components, and (iii) experiment parameters. This fundamental understanding allows prediction of likely corrosion behavior in vivo, and provides a basis for the standardization of Mg bio-corrosion testing.

主讲人简介:

zIMG_3139_545jpgProf Atrens is Head of Materials at The University of Queensland (UQ), Australia, where he has been since 1984. He has an international reputation with a h-index of over 50, with over 50 papers on various aspects of Mg corrosion, including a number of highly-cited reviews of Mg corrosion. His research interests are: (i) Mg corrosion, (ii) hydrogen embrittlement, and (iii) atmospheric corrosion and patination of copper. He studied at The University of Adelaide, and subsequently earned a higher doctorate from UQ. He has research experience in Canada, USA, Switzerland, Sweden, France, Thailand, Germany, and China.
